Dan & Jan Doo: The Founders of Functional Fabulousness
It all began with Dan, a lawn care prodigy who traded his PlayStation for a mower and became a legend in his small Kiwi town. But the story didn’t stop at lawns. Enter Jan, the cleaning queen with an eye for perfection and a heart for turning houses into homes. Together, they expanded into a property care powerhouse, roping in their kids, Ken (the carpet stain slayer) and Jen (the queen of painting and fences). From humble beginnings, the Doo family built Candoo into a nationwide network of local experts, all with one mission: to take the hassle out of property care.
And because greatness can’t help but attract attention, Dan’s leadership landed him national acclaim, including the Prime Minister’s Service Excellence Award. These days, “What Would Dan Doo Do?” wristbands are practically mandatory for the All Blacks, inspiring greatness one halftime at a time.

A Cut Above: Dan Doo’s Journey From Backyard Hero to National Icon
Dan Doo, Candoo’s CE-MOW, wasn’t handed success on a silver platter—he earned it with a rusty garden trowel and a stubborn mower named Old Smokey. Born and raised in a tiny town so remote even the sheep used Google Maps, Dan was a different breed. While his friends were glued to PlayStations, Dan was out mowing shapes into grass, dreaming of greener pastures.
A Lawn-Care Prodigy is Born
Dan’s genius first emerged at age nine when he sculpted his family’s hedge into a near-perfect replica of Michelangelo’s David. Critics still debate whether the hedge more closely resembles David or Dan himself, though it’s unanimously agreed to be a masterpiece.
By his teenage years, Dan was dominating the Extreme Mowing circuit, taking home three consecutive national titles. Cliff Trimwell, the reigning champ, couldn’t believe his eyes when Dan single-handedly mowed a quarter-acre lot in under five minutes, all while sipping a can of L&P. As the business grew, Ken and Jen Doo joined the family crusade. Ken, armed with a passion for perfection, became a master of carpet cleaning, tackling even the toughest stains. Meanwhile, Jen proved herself an all-rounder, excelling in general maintenance, fence building, decks, and painting. Dan closed a national contract with a handshake so firm it allegedly caused a small earthquake in Rotorua. And then came the Prime Minister’s call. After awarding Dan the “Kiwis Who Kick Grass” medal, she commissioned the now-iconic “What Would Dan Doo Do?” wristbands. They became a nationwide sensation, with everyone from tradies to toddlers wearing them.
